A web server is a software application that runs on a computer and is responsible for serving web pages and other content to clients over the internet or a private network. Web servers act as the middleman between the client’s web browser and the website or web application they are trying to access.

When a user types a website address into their web browser, the browser sends a request to the web server hosting the website. The web server then responds to the request by sending back the requested content, typically in the form of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files that are rendered by the user’s browser.
