Data encryption is the process of encoding sensitive data to protect it from unauthorized access. It converts plain text into an unreadable form called ciphertext using a cryptographic algorithm and an encryption key. The encrypted data can only be deciphered using the corresponding decryption key. Data encryption helps secure data during storage and transmission and is widely used in electronic communication, financial transactions, and other sensitive applications.
